UGC's 'NEP SAARTHI' initiative empowers students as academic reform ambassadors under NEP 2020. This programme bridges policymakers and peers, promoting higher education transformation in India.

In a forward-thinking move to deepen student engagement in educational transformation, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a new initiative titled ‘NEP SAARTHI’ – Student Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India. This initiative aims to cultivate a generation of informed and proactive students who will take on leadership roles in promoting and implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 within their institutions.

The NEP SAARTHI program seeks to empower students to become catalysts of change by encouraging awareness, dialogue, and participation in the evolving landscape of higher education. Acting as ambassadors, selected students will be the bridge between policymakers and peers, facilitating the seamless integration of NEP 2020's principles and practices into academic life.

Key Objectives of NEP SAARTHI:

  • Spread awareness among students about the core goals and reforms under NEP 2020 across college and university campuses.

  • Motivate students to actively support and take part in the execution of NEP initiatives.

  • Provide constructive feedback to UGC on how NEP changes are affecting students and suggest improvements based on their experiences.

Duties and Engagements of a NEP SAARTHI:

  • Act as a student representative and NEP 2020 ambassador, championing academic reforms among peers.

  • Organize awareness events each semester including debates, quiz competitions, street plays (nukkad nataks), and interactive discussions in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

  • Share information about NEP through digital platforms like social media, posters, and helpdesks set up during campus events.

  • Facilitate interaction between students, faculty members, and college administrators to foster a shared understanding of the reforms.

  • Document and submit concise reports on NEP initiatives for both physical display and online sharing with the UGC.

  • Participate in virtual programs hosted by UGC to stay updated on educational developments.

  • Collect and compile feedback from the student body using structured formats to help refine policy implementation.

With NEP SAARTHI, the UGC envisions a vibrant student-led movement that not only enhances awareness about educational reforms but also ensures that student voices are heard and integrated into the ongoing transformation of India’s higher education system. The initiative highlights the essential role of youth in shaping the future of academia and underlines the importance of inclusive policymaking driven by the very learners it aims to empower.
