The Technology Development Board (TDB), working under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has announced officially the National Technology Day 2025 theme as "YANTRA – Yugantar for Advancing New Technology, Research & Acceleration.
Inspired by India's vibrant scientific and philosophical heritage, the word YANTRA means more than mere machinery—it represents dynamic structures, orchestrated action, and scalable innovation. Coupled with Yugantar, or the meaning of an era of change, the theme mirrors India's movement from the status of technology consumers to world leaders in innovation and research.
National Technology Day, which falls on May 11 each year, is the anniversary of India's success in conducting breakthrough nuclear tests in 1998 during Operation Shakti, and the first successful flight of Hansa-3, a domestically designed plane. These were feats that inspired then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to declare the date a national day of celebration for scientific development.
Ever since it was started, the day has emerged as a key platform to acknowledge technological strides, induce innovation-driven growth, and stimulate engagement between government, industry, academia, and start-ups. This year's 2025 edition, to be hosted by TDB-DST, will bring together leaders across sectors to identify developments in deep-tech, precision manufacturing, and frontier research and further fuel India's innovation engine and technological ascendancy in the world.
